Strand D – Plant Seeds of Global Competence: Social Justice and Environmental Sustainability in the Mandarin Class
This strand will explore critical environmental topics through the lens of the Global Competence Domains as they address the CA World Language Standards & Framework. Participants will learn to transfer the information from these guides into practical instructional strategies and materials to help their students become 21st-century global citizens. Participants will be prepared to support their students by sparking their curiosity to investigate the local, regional, and global environments, to communicate and to articulate their ideas collaboratively, to recognize and to identify diverse perspectives from various cultural backgrounds, and to take action toward building a more sustainable global society.
Participants will acquire content knowledge about global challenges and will become knowledgeable about the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Meanwhile, they will learn about ways to integrate effective teaching practices and to acquire tools that they can easily apply. They will also develop practical resources for their courses, and work collaboratively to build a ready-to-use curriculum that they can implement in the up-coming new school year.
